She's Sleeping More at Night

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 - Day 15

We are keeping our fingers crossed that this is a positive sign that Tia is sleeping more at night and less during the day. She has had her days and nights switched since before birth which is typical for most babies. But our sleep has been deprived and it was on the top of our list to get her switched. Of course, we did our research and took in all the tips to try to get this switched. We started making it bright and noisier during the day and keeping her feeding every 3 hours, sleeping or not. At night, we dim the lights, make no eye contact and really try to make her realize when it is night versus day. The past few nights, she has gone to bed right after feeding and slept for 3 to 4 hours at a time which is a big improvement. We are going to continue this and see if it will stay this way. I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Another big development today was Tia getting her nails clipped. She has my hands which means she has very long fingers and big hands - it is so strange to see my hands but mini on her. My nails have always grown very fast and since hers are like mine, hers have grown very long the past two weeks and she is just now starting to scratch her face a bit and so we have been wanting to get them clipped. We bought the nail clippers with the magnifying glass and have the emery boards as well. Chris was so eager to clip her nails that I let him take the bull by the horns. He did great. Of course she was sleeping during the first hand, but after her nails were clipped Chris was taking the emery board to the edges and she woke up. We waited a bit for the second hand and then tackled that one as soon as she dozed off. Not as bad as we were thinking but still so scary since her nails are sooo tiny!
