Breast Feeding - To Be or Not To Be?

Friday June 26th, 2009 – Day 103

So I've had a lot of people ask me about breastfeeding and I've had a lot of different people's views on it. I honestly have not even read up or thought about it much, but according to my pregnancy calendar, it should be on my mind. I'd love to hear your advice or what you'd recommend for websites to read. I guess I need to start catching up on my breast feeding information.

Some friends the other night were giving me their thoughts on how with breastfeeding there are no bottles to clean and then another friend was saying that with formula, she has more sleep at night. What do you girls think?

  1. Breastfeed!! That is the best way to bond with your baby. It is so special. I never minded getting up at night to breastfeed my kids. I just sat in the rocking chair and let nature takes its course. It was one of the most precious things to do. They actually have electric pumps now too, so that when you go back to work you can pump the milk out for the baby. Trust me on this, Angie, breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful thing to do for the baby, and it is much healthier than formula. A lot of formulas can cause alergic reactions!

  2. Breastfeeding is also way cheaper! Formula can cost $20-25 a week. However, know that it does not always (or usually) come naturally for the mom or the baby. Alexander and I had a LOT of issues. I finally found a great lactation specialist and I'm going to pay her to come visit me in the hospital and get started right with baby #2. I did manage to breastfeed Alexander for four months and pumped for another month. He has only been sick with a cold one time in his 22 months of life, which may have to do with that or not being in daycare...whichever it is, I'll take it!
